Introduction

One of the key benefits of association membership are the opportunities for education, professional development and where required, CPD. In the past, live events, training days and manuals, CDs or videos have been the usual channels for delivery. Increasingly, members' expectations are for a digitally delivered training solution - e-learning offers this option and there are many benefits. Geographic location is no longer an issue, cost of participation can be tailored to suit members' budgets; users' progress and participation can be tracked and monitored and well-designed programmes can make the driest subjects more engaging. This seminar will provide an introduction to the concept of e-learning, the technology required and the benefits experienced by one association.

Who should attend

Association leaders ie CEOs, Chairs, Head of Business Development. Education specialists - Directors of Learning; Heads of Education; Heads of Professional Development/CPD; Heads of Qualifications; Heads of IT

Programme

15:00 Tea, Coffee & networking on arrival
15:30 Introduction to e-learning - developing a digital mind-set to deliver successful e-learning by Valli Rajagopal, Director, Digital Learn
There are a lot of questions around being digitally ready, and the cultural changes needed to ‘go digital’. Here are a few of the areas Valli will address as she sets the scene for digital change in education and training.
  • Why associations should embrace digital learning
  • A recipe for successful cultural transformation to a digital mindset
  • The touchpoints on the members’ e-learning journey
16:00 Tools and technologies, presented by our technology partner
To understand the potential of technology, we need to understand the technology. We will explain the different elements of e-learning systems:
  • The functions of an Learning Management System (LMS)
  • The interaction of an LMS with other systems
  • What other tools and technologies will be needed
16:30 Successful implementation - a case study by Martin Davies, Head of Digital Learning and Development at The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
Martin will discuss the practical aspects of creating e-learning opportunities within membership organisations and will also share issues and problems he has encountered along the way!
  • From vision to delivery – how it works in practice
  • Creating content – using staff, members or third parties to create superb content
  • Managing internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • The impact of e-learning on other association activities such as events and publishing
17:00 Panel Discussion
Damian will host a discussion where Valli, Martin and our technology partner will discuss the process of developing e-learning, and share their experiences of working with different organisations.
17:20 Exchange Session
The speakers will host round tables for a chance for attendees to ask about their own issues and challenges. There will be a opportunity to move to a different table during the session. Communities of practice are important in professional development, and we hope to build an association’s education community through this and other events.
